Skate love from the Caribbean

RST received this letter from a soulful Island skater:

I am certainly happy to have found your web page. My name is Henry Harper and I have been roller-skating since I was eight years old.  I will be sixty three on April 2nd 2008! 

I live in Trinidad & Tobago in the Caribbean and roller skate on weekends around what is known as our Queen’s Park savannah, a three-mile, almost-circular route. I have roller skated in London (UK) – where I lived for ten years – and in Paris.

In Trinidad & Tobago very few people roller skate. In days of old when men were bold we had a club called the Red Circle Roller Skating Club. We put on exhibitions and had racing competitions. For one reason or another the sport is on hold in T&T. So, I stand out like a sore thumb when skating on my quads around the savannah on weekends. 

Fact is, I enjoy it! I skate to electronic music and our local “Soca” music.

    where can I find xubsequent articles such as “Basic Skating Skills Part IV”? I’m particularly interested in Parts I thru the conclusion of that subject. I am looking for more basic information re the Jul?Aug 2003 article found in……….com/geoarchives.aug03.html Thank you.

    I also live in Trinidad & Tobago in the Caribbean and love roller skating but I have out grown my skates about a year ago and no matter where i check I can’t seem to find anywhere that sells roller skates. Is there anywhere that you know of in south Trinidad.

    Hey people,

    I also love skating. Right now i skate at Barataria Skating Complex Every Sat & Sun.with between 20 and 50 other skaters, some with a lot of talent and potential.

    My friend and I are in the process of forming a skating club,We are looking for any Suggestions or advice in making this possible.

      my name is seth and i rollerskate in london ,i am thinking about coming to Trinidad sometime, do people meet up regularly? every sunday for example, is the grounds smooth to skate on, please let me know what goes on out there, thanks, i am on facebook “Seth Dantzie

    I am coming to Trinidad for the first time and I love to skate. I will be there for nine days and would like to know where the closest rink is to San Fernado.

    The closest and best ring from San Fernando is Barataria…….but they open like sat and Sun from 4- 10pm……I would know after all i manage the place……..please feel free to come……when you reach just ask for me.

    I’m an old school roller who travels to Seattle, LA, and Houston. I’m good on the rinks in the first two cities, but need info on when and where to skate in Houston.

    For someting like a “skating ring” in trinidad it needs to be advertised more…………….
