An Online Resource  Station for Avid, R&B Skaters

Attention Denver & Buffalo Skaters

You have the opportunity to share your skate story with StoryCorps, a non-profit organization which travels the country recording individuals telling their life experiences for preservation in a Library of Congress archive. Recorded stories are regularly heard on public radio stations and are also available via the internet.

For months now, StoryCorps, in conjunction with Our Family Skate Association, has been recording skater histories (on CD) which then become part of the National African American Roller Skating Archive based at Washington, D.C.’s Howard University.

StoryCorps mobile booths will be in the Denver, Colorado and Buffalo, New York areas this summer and interested skaters are greatly encouraged to reserve a time to have their unique skate experiences recorded so that many generations in the future can benefit from listening to them.

Tentative schedule dates include:

Denver – July 17 to Aug. 5

Buffalo – July 17 to Aug. 5

Grand Junction, CO - Aug. 9 to 23

Hi, my name is Cecelia, they call me CeCe for short, I currently reside in Grand Rapids, Mi. and I used to liv e in Aurora, Co. off and on for about 6years. I have been rollerskating for about 10+ years now, and I absolutely love it! When I used to live in Aurora, went to SkateCity every week, and I had alot of fun. I now rollerskate in Grand Rapids, twice a week, I’ve been in a couple of skate clubs here, it was fun for the most part but I wasn’t able to dedicate myself to it 100% like they wanted me too, but I still support them 100%. I want to come back to Aurora to visit and rollerskate like oldtimes I miss it, and I want to show off some new moves I’ve learned as well as learn some new moves from over that way. Do you have any skating clubs there? If so what’s the name of the groups? I would like to somehow link Grand Rapids, Mi. skating groups up with Colorado roller skating groups, and maybe we can visit each others skating rinks, Colorado seems to be one of the states I have not seen on http://www.skategroove.com
and I want to help get you all on the map! I plan to visit Aurora sometime in 2008, it should be really nice, I’m looking forward to going to SkateCity, I want to go on Adult night, old school, and new school music works for me.

  3. cece, there are no roller skating clubs here in colorado… that i know of. there is an adult night every sunday from 6:30-9:30 pm at skate city/meadowood, which is more of a hip hop/slow song night. there is a saturday night skate from 9-midnight at skate city westminster with music top 40 w/ a little r&b. nice session to practice at.

but the real exciting thing is the new & improved every 3rd sunday skate which is the “grown folks” /old school session that just kicked off july 20. hopefully your visit will coincide with that weekend because i think you would really enjoy that night.
